Experienced Milwaukee Criminal Defense Attorney
Elizabeth A. Fernandez
Elizabeth Fernandez was born and raised in California in a law enforcement family. She grew up interested in criminal justice and studied political science at the University of California at Berkeley. She served as National Communications Coordinator for R.H.A. during her years there and was an active member of Alpha Phi International Fraternity. She graduated with a BA in Political Science with an emphasis on American Legal Studies in 1997.
After college Elizabeth worked as a Legal Assistant at the internationally recognized firm of O'Melveny & Myers LLP in San Francisco California. She worked on energy deregulation and asset divestiture matters while there.
Elizabeth went on to University of Wisconsin Law School where she was a Senior Articles Editor for the Women's Law Journal and was in the Legal Defense Program. While a student attorney at the Legal Defense Program, Elizabeth represented defendants in the Dane County Circuit Court in a variety of criminal matters. This experience motivated her to champion the causes of indigent defendants.
During law school Elizabeth also worked in the office of Administrative Legal Services at the University of Wisconsin, representing members of the University staff and faculty in legal matters. She graduated from University of Wisconsin Law School in 2001 and followed her calling by accepting a position as an Assistant State Public Defender in Milwaukee County.
As a criminal defense lawyer, Elizabeth has successfully defended hundreds of clients in the criminal courts in Southeast Wisconsin on all types of cases ranging from the most serious homicides and sexual assaults to misdemeanor drugs and domestic violence. She has won jury trials, obtained motions to suppress evidence, and successfully pushed to have charges dismissed based on the misconduct of police officials.
Elizabeth joined Allison Ritter to open a private criminal defense practice dedicated to protect the rights of all their clients in every case, and to provide the best criminal defense in Milwaukee. Elizabeth enjoys fighting for her clients and works diligently to achieve the best possible results in every case.
